A black box. One percussionist. One pianist. A Foley artist and an actor. The audience in the centre. The Last Lighthouse Keepers is an unusual and surrealist experience, where the beam of an imaginery lighthouse switches on and off all that is happening, defining the stage. The moment you repeat an action, you start a ritual, as does the turning light above the audience, creating repetition and trance. The piece provides a space for performing music, a space for video, where voices double instruments and where a stage design made of paper becomes an actor itself by being moved and being changed – and eventually destroyed.

The audience will be forced to move and will be kept alert, which will give them a certain engagement and fragility. The outcome is hoped to be something more friendly than a traditional forward-facing performance, more the sort of thing you have in a rock concert where the audience are really enjoying the show together. And somehow the last lighthouse keepers are the audience, too.

The Last Lighthouse Keepers is based on a Surrealist approach, which started with the discovery of the importance of the dreamer and the unconscious at the beginning of the century through Freud. Sarhan is interested in highlighting the layers of what we are and what we do through our imagination and reading of the unconscious, his conception is anti-materialistic and anti-pop.

Contemporary metal
Østre, 22 March kl 11:30. Ticket: 150,-/100,-

New works for avant-gard metal band by composers from nyMusikk’s composer group.

nyMusikk’s composer group (NMK) is a group for composers in the establishing phase which offers different projects to its members. In this project the aim is to work across genres with the wish to create a new genre – contemporary metal. The project wants to explore the mediation of music of the composers and performers both through method, form and auditive result. The four composers from NMK have worked closely with metal and avant-garde musicians, the music has been communicated orally, sound based and graphically to create a common platform of reference.
