Her Noise exchange between London and Oslo

18 January 2013 Her Noise: Vocal Folds was arranged by nyMusikk and Museet for samtidskunst (Museum of Contemporary Art), a symposium focusing on the female voice in music, culture and the public sphere.

The basis for the symposium was the Her Noise Archive, a collection of music histories in relation to gender connecting a wide network of female artists and musicians, consisting of fanzines, books, films, LPs and video interviews. The archive has been subject of numerous studies and dissertations since its establishment, and has had a major impact on the mapping of female artists in experimental music.

Following the symposium, Kunstakademiet (the Art Academy) in Oslo teamed up with the London College of Communication (which now owns Her Noise Archives through the research centre CRiSAP) on an exchange program for their students. The program is based on the archive and involves an exchange to London for the Norwegian students, where they will be taught by Anne Hilde Neset (nyMusikk) who helped to start the archive, among others.
