Therese Birkelund Ulvo + Britt Pernille Frøholm
Therese Birkelund Ulvo is one of Norway’s leading young composers, known for working in close collaboration with the musicians she writes for. Fragile (2007) was composed for fiddle player Britt Pernille Frøholm. Together they combine folk tunes, hard rock and sound art into a fragile and raw matter. With graphical drawings and aural communication, the piece was composed in a meeting point between the classical tradition of score music and the oral tradition of folk music.
Therese Birkelund Ulvo (1982) studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She also has a tight bond to Norwegian traditional music, a genre that has a rich array of micro-tonal and rhapsodic passages, open forms and performer-based compositions.
Ulvo has written music for a wide range of ensembles.
Britt Pernille Frøholm is a versatile performer who has worked with contemporary music and improvisation on fiddle. She has released several albums and is currently active in the groups MAAR, North Pole Experience, Boreas and Friensemblet. Frøholm is educated at Ole Bull Academy and University College Telemark.
