ONLY CONNECT FESTIVAL OF SOUND 2018
Jeff Carey: Precursor to Hypercube
Jeff Carey is an interdisciplinary American composer and artist. For Only Connect he presents the sound installation Precursor to Hypercube, a high intensity sensory discharge for four people, in four minutes.
Seat-belted into sound activated chairs wearing headphones in a darkened room, visitors hear, see and feel a composition that is articulated by synthesized sound, strobe and laser lighting. The result is a form of perceptual distortion in chamber format.
The audience must reserve time for participation in advance. More info to come.
Very limited capacity! Participation at your own risk.
Jeff Carey has a Bachelors of Science in Audio Technology from American University in Washington D.C. and studied computer music at the Instituut voor Sonologie, Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, The Netherlands. He has been an artist in residence at USF Verftet in Bergen (2006) and has refined his electro-instrumental music practice through several residencies at the Studio for Electro Instrumental Music (STEIM) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Precursor to Hypercube was made with support from the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance Rubys Artist Grant program and Recombinant Media Labs. Premiered at Recombinant Festival 2017.
