ONLY CONNECT FESTIVAL OF SOUND 2018
Christina Kubisch: Emergency Solos
SATURDAY 26 MAY
18:00 Skippergata 22
Christina Kubisch's Emergency Solos gets a new premiere at Only Connect. The Italian flutist Alessandra Rombolà performs the works for the first time since Kubisch herself presented them in the late 1970s.
In the 1970s Kubisch composed pieces that not only critiqued traditional modes of musical performance, but created entirely new sounds or interactions.
Among her early projects was Emergency Solos (1974), a series of flute recitals where Kubisch played the flute and other instruments with boxing gloves, gas mask, condoms and thimbles.
At the same time, the pieces are a natural starting point for her further development as one of Europe's most important sound and installation artists.
