ONLY CONNECT FESTIVAL OF SOUND 2018
Trigger is a robotic audio-visual concert installation, where a cyclic game between machines is visualized on 16mm film in real time. Simple trigger mechanisms create an intricate and hypnotic expression, where sound and light alternate in taking control.
In Trigger, analogue machines and instruments are hacked to produce new expressions: a machine’s precision meets analogue fallibility, and the friction that occurs leads the expression in continuously new directions.
The installation employs audio and light sensors so that the audio signals can control the colour choices and nuances of the projections, which then affect how the physical instruments are played.
The international trio behind the project consists of the Norwegian musician and composer Stephan Meidell, and the Berlin-based film company Blank Blank Film with Petri Henriksson (Finland) and Carlos Vasquez (Columbia).
