Lydia Lunch & Mia Zabelka
In collaboration with Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, nyMusikk presents a concert by two musicians who have left a strong mark in their respective styles. The feminist post-punk legend Lydia Lunch meets the Austrian noise violinist Mia Zabelka.
Lydia Lunch (born 1959) is an American singer/poet/writer/actor who began her career in New York's No Wave scene in the late 1970s. She founded the band Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, who later accumulated a significant cult following. Later, she starred in several underground films before starting her own label Widowspeak and continued to make music under her own name. Lunch is known for her anti-commercial ethics and sexually provocational expression, which is a key aspect of her music, poetry and spoken word performances.
Mia Zabelka (born 1963) is an Austrian composer, e-violinist and vocalist. She is regarded as one of the world's most innovative violin players, and as a composer and performer she has developed a unique language based on de- and re-construction of the instrument’s sonic possibilities. She achieves this by expanding the range of the instrument using live electronic devices and innovative performance techniques.
