Michael Gordon - Timber
with Nu Nordic Percussion

Timber by Michael Gordon is a hypnotic and mesmerizing sonic experience created solely by six planks of wood and six percussionists. Gordon composed the evening-length work in 2009 and masterfully explores the timbre possibilities in the most simple of all materials—raw wood. The work brings the physicality, endurance and technique of percussion performance to a new level. In this work, Gordon shapes the music in both polyrhythmic and dynamic waves of textures — often each players' hands are in separate rhythmic 'worlds', each traversing a different dynamic contour from loud to soft to loud.

Nu Nordic Percussion is comprised of some of the most exciting percussionists in Scandinavia, a brand new ensemble born with a nordic tour of Timber:

Jennifer Torrence (NO/USA)
Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen (NO)
Sigrun Rogstad Gomnæs (NO)
Henrik Larsen (DE)
Pontus Langendorf (SE)
Daniel Paulsen (NO)
